Roots&Routes Follow Up dance and music workshops and performances from February to October 2010 in the rural areas of Valdisieve and Valdarno to the East of Florence, where 10 municipalities of the “network for contemporary culture” are promoting since 2008 the project Agorà, focused on the piazza as a space of intercultural and intergenerational encounter and exchange.
Together with the dance and music masters and junior coaches of
Centro Coreografico Opus Ballet and
CAM - Centro Attività Musicali Firenze, two well-established dance and music schools operating on the Florentine territory within the network of private non-formal vocational arts education and two of Fabbrica Europa’s most close partner organisations, the
Agorà 2010 workshops have developed a research work based on the dialogue and contamination of diverse styles, techniques and assets related to sound, voice, gesture and movement. The workshops have allowed the young talents from the involved territories to experience directly the Roots&Routes philosophy and training methods, to work for one day side by side with masters and talents of the international network in the masterclass held in Pontassieve on May 16th by Nabil Ouelhadj, and to achieve a new artistic and intercultural awareness.
Between July 10th and October 9th, 2010, the results of the workshops have been presented in the piazze of the 10 participating municipalities, in the frame of popular fairs and arts and handicrafts events. This presentation phase was also an important part of the training: especially for the dancers, who didn’t perform on stage, it meant adapting every time to the specificities of a different context and perform side by side with the multiform community of the different piazze. All participants were motivated on questioning themselves about their relations with the stage and public: what does it mean to be on stage or between the people, and what to dance on the edge of a contemporary fountain or on the staircase of a Romanesque abbey?
